Crafting Tales from Life’s Vivid Shades
As a child, I was quite the handful. My mom often braced herself for yet another neighbor to knock on our door with a complaint about me. My teachers too had a hard time figuring out to like me or get tired of me, as I was excellent in academics and all extra curricular activities yet I found myself being caught for all the wrong reasons. Sometimes, it would be running off to the fields near my school during a free class and losing track of time and not returning before the next class began, or I’d be trying to paint the wall with my colorful sketch pens because they looked too dull.
Back home, I would at times mix up the grains at the general store because the rice sack looked too white and the lentil sack was too orange, so I would grab handfuls of each and mix them and I thought they looked beautiful, I even figured out how to climb the wall, which was lined with broken glass meant to keep intruders away. But I found a way around it and would shimmy up the tree to snatch ripe mangoes, until the not-so-friendly “aunty” came yelling at me. In India, every married lady, and at times, just being in your 30’s 🤨is referred to as “aunty” .
A curious cat, I wanted to know everything about everything. Being the only child, I often craved for company and my marathon of questions never…
